New York Tech’s Long Island campus seeks a Groundsperson to work Monday – Friday, 10:00AM – 6:30 PM.
The Groundsperson title is in the Collective Bargaining Agreement with Local 282. The Groundsperson performs routine manual labor to maintain campus grounds, including landscape cleaning and seasonal outdoor maintenance. The role requires regular physical activity and the use of hand and power tools.
Essential Job Functions
Perform lawn care, including mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing debris
Remove trash, leaves, and debris from grounds, walkways, and parking areas
Perform snow and ice removal, including shoveling, salting, and operating snow equipment
Operate equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and small machinery
Load, unload, and transport materials such as soil, mulch, tools, and equipment
Identify and report unsafe conditions or maintenance issues
Perform general outdoor maintenance as assigned
Physical Demands
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. regularly
Use of hands for gripping, handling, and operating tools and equipment
Repetitive motions including bending and twisting
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow)
Work Environment
Outdoor work in all seasons and weather conditions
Exposure to noise, dust, pollen, and equipment fumes
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
Previous landscaping, outdoor maintenance, and snow plowing experience preferred.
HS Diploma or equivalent.
Must be computer literate.
Must have a valid NYS driver’s license.
Ability to work unsupervised on assigned tasks.
