POSITION TITLE: Senior Specialist Professional Development

 

HOURS / WEEK: 35

 

JOB SITE LOCATION: Northern Blvd, P.O. Box 8000, Old Westbury, NY 11568     

Responsibilities

DUTIES: New York Institute of Technology seeks a Senior Specialist Professional Development based out of our campuses at Northern Blvd P.O. Box 8000 Old Westbury, NY 11568 and 1855 Broadway, New York, NY 10023. This is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the aforementioned campuses. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the aforementioned campus addresses. This position requires international and domestic travel, as needed, up to 10%. Develop and maintain effective employer relations with corporate, non-profit, education, and government employers, as well as, NYIT alumni to improve opportunities for CoECS students including mentorships, networking, and internships to enhance the recruiting of CoECS students for part-time and full-time employment. Serve as a liaison with other NYIT departments such as Career Services and Experiential Education, Advising and Enrichment Center, Student Life, Strategic Communications and External Affairs, Procurement, Admissions, Registrar, Enrollment Services, etc to bring services to students that promote retention, career success, academic achievement, and sense of belonging. Interface with the Student Academic Enrichment Division on Student Retention initiatives as they apply to the CoECS. Ensure that "relationships" are built with students instead of mere transactions through the necessary internal outreach to students for events, initiatives, and career-oriented opportunities (New Student Welcome, CoECS Honors Program initiatives, Leadership Development Program events, competitions, entrepreneurial challenges, company information sessions, scholarships, internships, conferences, Undergraduate Research and Entrepreneurship Program, etc) and encourage and reward student engagement. Create and implement programs to promote student success. Advise student chapters of professional engineering organizations and coordinate professional development opportunities including conferences and competitions; coordinate conference registration, lodging, and travel for students. Host pre-conference workshops for students to improve career skills. Facilitate advisement sessions and one-on-one advisement appointments and make sure student concerns are addressed in a timely fashion with the goal of making sure the students feel respected and well served. Create and maintain CoECS students' events calendar of internal and external events. Create and manage monthly student e-newsletter to communicate announcements, career opportunities, scholarships, engagement opportunities, and NYIT resources to CoECS students. Utilize and maintain existing databases of contacts and contact lists and create new ones to enhance CoECS student academic, extra-curricular, and leadership and volunteer experiences, via conferences, camps, workshops, ETIC events, institutional recruitment events, CooECS STEM and high school outreach events, etc. Coordinate logistics for seminars, conferences, and events (reserve space, order food, organize handouts and promotional materials) and plan audience outreach strategies, adjust strategies and additional marketing/promotion as needed, and report registration and RSVP status regularly leading up to an event. Manage the planning, development, and evaluation of CoECS career development programs, events, policies, and procedures including Plan networking and recruiting events that bring together employers, alumni, and current students, including Networking receptions, employer career panels, and technical talks, student “road trips” to employer sites, job shadowing opportunities, and a variety of other co-sponsored events. Marketing of CoECS-specific internship and employer events/programs on campus. Other duties as directed by the CoECS dean and dean's office and cross-campus travel as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree (or foreign academic equivalent) in Business Administration or in a related field and three (3) years of experience in Student Affairs, Academic and Professional Advising, and career development or in a related occupation.

 

Experience must include: Experience with Student Affairs, International Cooperation and Global Exchange & Study Abroad Programs, Academic and Professional Advising; Experience with higher education in career development or student affairs; Experience working with engineering or computer science students, including career planning, professional development and mentoring is required; Experience with new student program development, career planning, and event organization.

 

OTHER: International and domestic travel required, as needed, up to 10%.
