Responsibilities

The libraries need a skilled Library Assistant for the Technical Services department.   This library assistant requires specialized skills in order to assist the librarians with emerging technology, work with faculty members in integrating the technologies available into their courses, assist with the usage of the technologies and in the creation of workshops to teach faculty and students how to use the equipment. This position is vital to support the usage of the innovation labs and in supporting the maintenance of the online catalog.

 

This Library Assistant will also be cross-trained to work in the public services department and assist with requests for reserves and circulation of equipment and materials.   This person will be the front-line supervisor for student workers.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Importing and editing new e-books from vendors for various database
  • Record and maintain Counter Compliant statistics and other statistics for journals/periodicals, e-books and databases.
  • Assist with scheduling of events
  • Supervise student aides and graduate students working in the library
  • Process reserves request by scanning and checking out the materials
  • Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs of technological equipment
  • Participation in the selection of new equipment
  • Promote use of innovation lab through outreach to patrons & assist with updating the Innovation Labs webpage
  • Keeping current with emerging technologies
  • Cover the circulation desk and innovation center as needed
  • Assist students with 3D printer problems and other technological equipment as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Knowledge of ILS systems, preferably OCLC-WMS
  • Working knowledge of Innovation Lab technology, including, but not limited to 3D printers and video cameras.
  • Ability to work with individuals possessing a broad range of technological expertise in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to students, faculty and staff and to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize tasks
