The School of Architecture and Design at the New York Institute of Technology invites outstanding candidates for the position of full-time non-tenure-track Teaching Faculty in Interior Design. This position will be based in our NYC campus with the possible need to serve on the Long Island campus and requires teaching in Interior Design studios as well as courses, seminars, and electives. The responsibilities for a successful academic path will include teaching, scholarship, and service.

Responsibilities

The candidate will provide comprehensive instruction, coordination, and academic collaboration throughout the four-year ID.BFA program in Interior Design, with a strong integrated approach to architectural design, professional practice, history-theory, and technology sequences. Contribution to the School includes participation and leadership in curriculum development, in CIDA accreditation activities, student mentoring and advising, retention and recruitment initiatives, and service activities to the community, the School, and the Institution.

 

This position is intended to mostly support our CIDA-accredited Interior Design BFA and the accelerated BFA+MBA degree programs. This long-standing program brings together collaborations between disciplines such as Architecture, Business, and Health Professions.  

 

Areas of emphasis include experience with design processes and projects, materials, lighting and color explorations, digital simulations, fabrication techniques, creative decision-making processes, building systems integration, and addressing qualities of the interiors interconnected to architecture, the built environment and urban strategies as they affect health, wellness, and community resilience. 

 

We are seeking an individual who is passionate about the potential of intersections in emerging practices and technologies relevant to Interior Design, Architecture, and related fields, who promises to infuse our curricula with entrepreneurial perspectives, and who is interested in advanced technologies that inform innovative pedagogical models and the pursuit of new knowledge at New York Tech’s School of Architecture and Design.

 

The candidate will be expected to have an active role in the development of cross-disciplinary practice and business initiatives leading to the expansion of ongoing collaborations and partnerships within the institution, other universities, with the profession and the industry, nationally and internationally, contributing to New York Tech’s excellence and the enhancement of the university’s reputation.

Qualifications

 

 

  • A Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or in a field pertaining to the course(s) for this position, plus a record of accomplishments
  • Ability to teach topical courses/seminars/electives in the area of the position description; ability to teach design studios at all levels.
  • Candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, a demonstrated level of intercultural competence, and the ability to work well with diverse populations.
  • Evidence of specialized scholarship, academic, professional/creative activities, and achievements with strong and innovative, integrated design capabilities.

Highly Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in sustainable design protocols; preferred specialized certifications.
  • Experience in lighting, color, and material integration in design projects and in academic coursework.
  • Knowledge and experience in integrated emerging digital technologies and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of Interior Design history and theory.
  • NCIDQ registration or equivalent professional licensure.
  • Evidence of professional practice in Interior Design and Architecture.
  • Previous teaching and administrative experience in Interior Design and Architecture.
  • Record of interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • Contributions to externally funded research.

New York Tech considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience/expertise, education/training, key skills, geographic location, internal peer equity as well as market, organizational considerations and/or applicable collective bargaining agreement when extending an offer.

 

Minimum Salary

USD $75,500.00/Yr.

Maximum Salary

USD $115,000.00/Yr.
