The School of Architecture and Design at New York Tech invites applications for the position of Printing & Plotting Service Manager. Based in NYC, the Manager will be serving both New York (Manhattan) and Long Island (Old Westbury) campus locations.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual, with a strong interest in education and excellent organizational and technical skills, expertise in printing, representational graphics, graphic technologies, and plotting services in support of a creative design environment. Experience and interest in architectural representation, graphic design, bookbinding and bookmaking, photography and lighting, and digital fabrication and technologies is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Working between NYIT’s New York (Manhattan) and Long Island (Old Westbury) campus locations, the Printing & Plotting Service Manager will report to the Director of Digital Technologies and Fabrication and will oversee day-to-day operations and manage the school’s plotting services and plot shop student staff.
  • The manager will support SoAD faculty and students, work with administrators and assist in managing usage, installing, maintaining, programming and continually upgrading equipment and machines.
  • The manager will be required to manage the digital submission of plotting and printing files into the online queue.
  • Responsibilities include ensuring all project deadlines are met and associated cost budgets are adhered to, keeping track of related supplies, ink and paper usage, and scheduling timely supply orders to enable smooth uninterrupted plot shop operations.
  • Other responsibilities include the hiring, managing, training, and scheduling of student employees, and supervising student staff.
  • Help develop new capabilities and foster innovative projects such as bookmaking and bookbinding (perfect binding, guillotine paper cutting), laminating, model photography and lighting, architectural graphics and representation tutorials and workshops, etc. will be encouraged.

Qualifications

 

  • A Bachelor's degree in a design and technology-related field.
  • Prior experience in the printing and large format printing industry.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working in an academic and/or professional setting.
  • Working knowledge of computers and print software such as Adobe Acrobat software.
  • Experience using, installing, and maintaining software and machines for plotting/printing.
  • Strong technical skills and experience in graphic design, 2D and 3D design software and digital programs like Adobe Creative Suite, Rhinoceros, CAD, Revit, etc. is preferred.
  • Experience and /or interest in bookmaking, bookbinding processes and equipment, photography and lighting is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, a great and proactive attitude, collegiality in teamwork is requiired.
  • Ability to assist students and faculty as needed.
  • Ability to travel to LI and NYC campus.
  • A flexible work schedule may be necessary at times include nights and weekends.
