    The purpose of the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) is to prepare secondary school students, who are either economically disadvantaged or minorities historically underrepresented in STEM, for entry into postsecondary degree programs in scientific, technical, health-related and licensed professions.


    The ultimate objective of the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) is to prepare a diverse motivated health care workforce that provides the opportunity for increased access to medical care, as well as to eliminate health disparities among medically deprived and underserved people.


    New York Institute of Technology, College of Osteopathic Medicine STEP grant seeks a part-time Project Coordinator, who will be responsible for developing and implementing the middle school program serving twenty to twenty five students. Reporting to the STEP program manager, candidates will be working closely with school district personnel. The middle school program sessions will meet once a month at both Glen Cove and Wyandanch Middle Schools with sessions based on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.


    Responsibilities include:


    • Planning and implementing the middle school component of the program consisting of 7th & 8th grade students, beginning with development of monthly sessions, school district partnership recruitment for the program and showcase events for the science and math courses using hands on demonstrations to highlight Long Island and Regional environmental, health related and sustainable issues.                                                   
    • There will be a winter academy, held on the NYIT Old Westbury Campus, in February focused on geo-caching, engineering and the health professions.
    • Assisting the STEP Manager with High School Sessions, Days of Service, Health Care Professions Day, STEM Diversity Summit Roundtable, Robotics Competitions, LI STEP Consortium, and NY State STEP Conferences.
    • Aiding the Manager with State reporting requirements.


    It will be 20 hours a week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.





    • Bachelor’s Degree required.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Organizational skills and the ability to multitask needed
    • Proficiency in Excel, report writing and program organizing required.
    • Candidates with prior student experience are preferred.
