    Teaching Assistant Professor in Computer Science (non-tenure track), College of Engineering and Computing Sciences.  Will teach undergraduate and graduate courses.


    1.   Teaching

    It is expected that faculty members demonstrate the ability to teach a variety of courses within their discipline(s) at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as appropriate.


    2.   Service

    In the area of service, advisement, mentoring, recruitment and retention, such activities are an obligation of the faculty as part of their fundamental faculty duties throughout their career at NYIT.  Other activities listed below provide further support for a candidate’s application for reappointment, tenure or promotion.

    1. Student academic advisement, tutoring, mentoring, and student support can be demonstrated through activities such as: advisement schedules, lists of students advised, evidence of mentoring activities, samples of group activities or projects the faculty member has advised or mentored, and methods of working with student assistants. Involvement in Student Life, Professional Organizations and Clubs and Honor Society advisement, including evidence of accomplishments and initiatives like organizing competitions, acting as a Club Faculty Advisor and hosting regional conferences at NYIT.
    2. Student recruitment and retention can be documented by such activities as: participation in recruiting programs such as Open Houses, presentations to high schools or other colleges,participation in outreach activities with CoECS partners (i.e. Intrepid Museum or other entities) outside classroom help to students, and/or contributions to improve student mentoring and student life in general, etc.
    3. Service to NYIT through Committees, Task Forces and other formal entities (list all with position held, and frequency of meetings and dates).
    4. Membership and/or offices held in professional societies, community boards, etc.
    5. Promotion of social, entertainment and other extracurricular activities.
    6. Examples of enhancement of the Department, College and/or NYIT’s image (i.e., Invitation of speakers or seminar series).
    7. Seminars held by faculty at NYIT.
    8. Evidence of recognition and/or respect by the NYIT community.
    9. Consulting and advisory activities: The faculty member can submit evidence such as letters from clients, service on boards of directors, advisors, advisory committees, etc. and a description of relevancy to NYIT or professional competence.
    10. Honors, awards or consulting activities outside NYIT but reflecting positively upon the NYIT community.
    11. Service that enhances a student’s college academic experience.
    12. Active participation in a program outcome assessment for NYIT and/or an accreditation agency (i.e., attending an ABET workshop or taking necessary steps to become an Evaluator).
    13. Participation in off-campus events and programs on behalf of the department or College.
    14. Active participation in professional organizations, including election as an officer of a professional organization, or chairing a session or a conference.
    15. Outreach activities that link the faculty member’s scholarship, field of expertise, or teaching activities with the larger, outside community, such as providing workshops, serving on regional committees, or engaging in public policy development work.
    16. Enhancement of the department’s reputation by making contributions related to one’s field of expertise to organizations that help the larger, outside community (e.g., service learning programs).
    17. Demonstrated willingness to mentor other faculty (e.g., serving as a designated mentor for new faculty; providing workshops to enhance the teaching or scholarly work of others, including those from other fields of specialization).
    18. Active engagement as a consultant or member of an accrediting team involving the application of discipline-related expertise (e.g., authoring reports or presentations).



    • Preferred candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, or a related field, excellent communication skills, and a solid track record in academia. Candidates with a Masters’ Degree in Computer Science, or a related field with 5+ years of industry experience will be considered.
    • Commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level is required.
