    Responsibilities

    New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) Department of Student Life seeks a Student Support Specialist to work at our New York City campus.  Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Student Support Specialist ensures the smooth operation of the office including overseeing student staff members and addressing concerns from parents, faculty, students and staff.

     

    Responsibilities include:

     

    • Serves as the Assistant to the Associate Dean of Students and may attend meetings and create reports to support the functions of Student Life. Assists the Associate Dean of Students with calendar management, travel, and special projects of an administrative nature. Will work on Student Life related projects that may include: marketing, social media, student and staff training, programming and development.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        
    • Assist other departments and Student Life with assessment and surveys on our NYIT student program assessment platform - Baseline.
    • Coordinator for Campus Labs - student engagement platform.
    • Serves as the budget coordinator for Student Life and provides monthly budgetary reports.
    • Will provide financial management strategies for the Associate Dean of Students account in order to ensure strong financial stewardship. Coordinate the initial intake and review of student conduct reports received and provide ongoing maintenance of student records.
    • Assist in the management of the electronic student database - Maxient.
    • Assist in day-today operations including coordinating student hearings, preparing student disciplinary files, receiving and documenting student issues/complaints.
    • Respond to individual follow up to students who have not completed assigned educational sanctions. Assist in conducting investigations of alleged violations of the student code of conduct.
    • Manage confidential information and complete Dean Certification
    • Provide case management support to students of concern on an ongoing basis.
    • Coordinate and assist with the facilitation of programs and events in support of the Associate Dean of Students including but not limited to, alcohol workshop, plagiarism workshop, and other educational outreach initiatives.
    • Maintain compliance with FERPA, Title IX, Clery and other state, local and federal laws.
    • Work collaboratively with the Office of Student Life, Counseling and Wellness, Academic Affairs, International Education, and related community organization partners.
    • General office duties.

     

    Qualifications

     

    Bachelor’s Degree required.

    Experience managing multiples projects and priorities.

    Critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed.  

    Knowledge of Microsoft Word and basic computer software

    Ability to manage complicated situations involving distressed people

    Manage confidential information.
