    NYIT seeks an Assistant Registrar located at the Long Island (Old Westbury, NY) campus.

     

    Responsibilities

    With a focus on degree completion and increasing graduation rates, responsible for analyzing and auditing the academic records of candidates for graduation from all campuses.  Ensure all program requirements have been satisfied in accordance with NY state and NYIT regulations.  Update the student records with appropriate flags and comments for each student reviewed for graduation.  Oversee waivers and substitutions ensuring compliance with NYIT and NY state policies.  Ensure diploma mailings meet NYIT standards.

     

    Manage registrar participation in college-wide graduation and retention efforts to improve degree completion rates.  Review retention and graduation data and coordinate outreach to students.  Liaise with other departments including advising, admissions, enrollment services, and others to identify solutions.  Outreach to students needing assistance with NYS TAP processing.

     

    Identify trends and make recommendations to decrease problems/errors resulting in student’s failure to progress.  Using EAB Student Success Collaborative track students supported.  Stay abreast of new technologies with regard to degree audits, research new technologies and make recommendations for improvement.  Assist with maintenance and building of degree audits including interpreting requirements and translating and entering those requirements into the student system.

     

    As part of a training team conduct trainings for students, faculty and staff.  Learn and maintain knowledge of student resources.  Act as a liaison to faculty, department chairs and academic departments to determine appropriate course of action in student cases.

    Qualifications

    • A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of three (3) years experience in higher education, preferably with database and degree audit systems and knowledge of PeopleSoft student information system or other SIS, FERPA, and Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel and ability and desire to acquire technical expertise as needed is required.
    • Strong attention to detail and follow-up.
    • High standard of ethics, integrity, honesty and confidentiality.
    • Ability to analyze and interpret institutional policies.
    • Develop and maintain positive working relationship with constituents including faculty and department chairs.
    • Experience and proficiency in building, reading, maintaining degree audits.
    • Strong communication (writing and verbal) skills, diplomacy and professionalism.
    • Ability to be collaborative, approachable and team oriented with mutual constituencies including faculty, students and staff from diverse backgrounds in order to build strong working relationships and a positive work environment. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, as well as work independently.
    • Ability to prioritize, plan, organize, and schedule in an efficient and productive manner with attention to detail and meeting deadlines required. Professional and effective interpersonal, oral and written skills are required.  Experience working within a customer service-oriented environment, preferably in a higher education setting. 
    • Travel to the NYC campus; evening and weekend hours are required as needed.
