NYIT’s College of Osteopathic Medicine seeks a Physical Therapy Assistant located at the Old Westbury campus.
The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) will work under direction of Licensed Physical Therapists (LPT) to help patients who have physical injuries or illnesses to regain range of movement and control their pain. Under the LPT's direction, the PT assistant will help people who have lost motor function due to accidents, illness or age. PTA will follow plans that involve strength training, stretching, exercises and physical manipulation to aid in recovery.
Participate as a coach for Rock Steady Boxing component of Parkinson's Program.
Participate in Wellness program initiatives.
Responsible for ensuring treatment area is clean, neat and ready for each patient.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Associates degree for Physical Therapy Assistant is preferred.
Expertise in human movement and Physical function is required.
A Physical Therapist Assistant Certification is required.
Must have interpersonal Skills: PT Assistant will be working one on one with patients daily and in close proximity. The candidate must be a good communicator and listener.
Must be compassionate: Will be working with and treating patients experiencing pain and concerns about their treatment and recovery.
Must have attention to detail: Must be observing of patient issues, progress, and accurately report observations to supervising PT.
Must have stamina and physical strength: Much of the PTA's time can be spent standing. PTA's may have to lift patients.
