    New York Institute of Technology seeks an Executive Director for External Affairs to be responsible for the development, integration and implementation of a broad range of external affairs activities relative to the strategic direction to position NYIT as a premier polytechnic in the NY Metro area and beyond and to enhance recruitment and retention, philanthropy and reputation. In addition, this individual will help develop and execute an overall plan and calendar for External Affairs activities, prioritizing those that add the most value (in form of revenue and/or reputation building) to NYIT.


    • Strategic Partnerships:

      • Follow up on the execution of action items resulting from strategic meetings with various external relations stakeholders, organizations, and networks.
      • Help create, cultivate and develop corporate, government and foundations relationships for leadership to connect with, with the goal of generating new revenue and countless opportunities for faculty and students across NYIT.
      • Establish strategic partnerships with various entities ranging from academic institutions to technical and nonprofit organizations, research consortia, to corporations.


    • Cultivation and Thought Leadership Events:
      • Support the development of conferences, workshops, and other cultivation and thought leadership events, competitions, speaking engagements, and programming initiatives, leveraging partnerships with key organizations to create 1) events that reflect NYIT’s mission and vision, elevate NYIT’s brand, reputation, awareness, and visibility, and engage in person and online audiences, and 2) opportunities for grants and partnerships.



    • Non-Tuition Revenue from Grants:

      • Identify and evaluate emerging issues, new funding sources and grant opportunities (government agencies, corporations, and foundations) and assist in writing grants
      • Seek sponsorships to support above thought leadership events
      • Coordinate the mechanics of grant submissions with the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research and the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs




    • Post Graduate or Master's degree in Economics, Business, Political/Social Science, or equivalent experience
    • Post MS/MBA Certifications or Ph.D. degrees in Economics, Business, Political/Social Science, or equivalent experience
    • Over ten years of industry experience; at least seven years’ experience managing a team of people and reporting to high-level administration.
    • Knowledge and understanding of Higher Education and Business Development.
    • Demonstrated superior communications (writing, speaking, and editing) ability, with experience in business development, developing external relations, creating partnerships, and supporting high level events that elevate brand, reputation and awareness.
    • Extraordinary research, project management, and organizational skills, with the ability to think strategically and creatively when approaching challenges.
    • Superior management and multitasking skills. Highly organized strategic thinker. Experience in establishing clear direction, operating against objectives, and meeting deadlines.
    • Impeccable integrity, judgment, and discretion along with a professional demeanor and interpersonal style that elicits trust from leadership, funders, staff, and partners.
