    Responsibilities

    New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) seeks a highly visible, energetic, innovative, experienced, and forward-looking Director of Alumni Relations to help shape and grow a young Alumni Relations program. The successful individual will be an engaged leader who has vision and passion as well as a proven record of successful leadership in promoting an integrated, engaged alumni experience in a dynamic university environment.

     

    The Director for Alumni Relations will be required to create and implement strategic annual and long-term plans, programs, and leadership opportunities designed to engage alumni through programs and activities that encourage reconnecting and development of a life-long relationship with the NYIT community. This individual will have the vision to create and administer alumni relations programs whose aim it is to increase alumni engagement here and abroad. The successful candidate will be tasked to build and strengthen the relationships between alumni, and current students, faculty, various departments within NYIT (both domestic and global), and the institution as a whole through communication, outreach, and fostering professional and personal connections.

     

    Successful candidates will display a passion for and resonance with the mission of the university; a commitment to providing a robust alumni experience, and the highest level of personal and professional integrity. The Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for championing NYIT’s goal to be a “student-centered” university, among other goals and visions described in the university’s 2030 strategic plan.

     

    Reporting to the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations, the successful candidate must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. In addition to advanced computer skills, a familiarity with Raiser’s Edge, I-Modules and Net Community along with a passion for data integrity is required. This individual should have some global experience as NYIT has alumni in China, the Middle East, and Canada. 

               

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

     

    Planning

     

    • Creates and implements a plan for alumni relations in support of the University’s Master Plan and Mission Statement. When the University is in a campaign, the alumni relations plan also supports the campaign priorities.
    • Works with other members of the Development office in creating and implementing the Alumni Relations Plan.
    • Organizes and executes regional, cultivation, stewardship, networking events as necessary and provides follow-up reporting.
    • Completes necessary metric reports for the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations.
    • Create and introduce student engagement programming plans to connect current students to the global alumni network of professionals and educate them about their lifelong role as NYIT alumni.
    • Build partnerships with the Office of Development staff and collaborate on annual fund campaigns, alumni data processes, prospect research, and donor events.
    • Schedule, plan and coordinate an annual calendar of alumni events for all campuses.
    • Provide leadership and direction to the university concerning the collection, distribution and integrity of alumni data.
    • Define the key metrics for alumni engagement, oversee the collection of and analysis of data, evaluate program success, and employ data-based decision making to strengthen the University’s Alumni Relations efforts.

     

    Alumni Association

     

    • Oversees the Alumni Association and its volunteer leadership.
    • Works closely with the Alumni Association president in creating and executing strategy and plans.
    • Directs the executive committee of the Alumni Association towards focusing Board energy and efforts towards supporting the goals of the University.
    • Provide internal and external customers with alumni data using Raiser's Edge.
    • Identify prospective donors and supporters within the alumni community.
    • Collaborate with campus departments to build a culture of alumni engagement.

     

    Outreach and Communications

     

    • Meeting goal of 6-8 visits per month.
    • Cultivates and stewards a portfolio of 50 prospects and donors.
    • Reviews regularly the alumni section of the University’s website and provides content for the maintenance of this website to assure accuracy and timeliness of information.
    • Working closely with the Office of Strategic Communications and External Affairs, oversee the use of social networking activities to connect with alumni, and promote the professional work activities, and achievements of NYIT alumni.
    • Ability to travel between Manhattan and Long Island campuses.

     

     

    Skills:

    • Thorough knowledge of the principles and methods for the operation of a successful alumni program.
    • A strong leader who is comfortable advocating for human, technical, and financial resources to meet the needs of the alumni community.
    • Organized and able to work on multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing deadlines.
    • Strong computer and technology skills: Raiser’s Edge, iModules, LinkedIn, social media, and other software tools.
    • Demonstrated ability to build productive relationships with alumni, students, staff and faculty.
    • Experience working with diverse constituencies.
    • Team building and management skills.
    • Familiarity with the principles of friend/fund raising and annual giving.
    • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills. 

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5-7 years of related experience required. 
    • An advanced degree and experience in a higher education, alumni relations or a non-profit environment is preferred. 
    • Must be able to work weekends, evenings and travel within the USA and abroad.
    • Ability to supervise a team; work collaboratively and communicate effectively.
    • Strong administrative, financial management/budgeting, planning, and problem-solving skills.
    • Working knowledge of current academic issues; experience in a culturally diverse environment. and a strong commitment to providing excellent service to multiple constituents.
