    New York Institute of Technology seeks a full time Reference & Instruction Librarian to work at the Wisser Library at the Old Westbury campus.  Reporting to the Director of Branch Services, the Librarian will provide general & specialized reference services in person & virtually to students, faculty & staff.


    Responsibilities include:

    • Prepare and deliver classroom instruction in information literacy, research skills, and library resources & procedures, etc.
    • Development of print and web-based research and instructional materials.
    • Create & publish Web-based content:  research tutorials, subject guides, course guides, promotional spots, information pieces, etc., using design software, including Camtasia, LibGuides, LibAnswers, etc.
    • Provide library liaison support & collection development for the College of Arts & Science and other academic departments as assigned.
    • Provide one-on-one research consultations with students.
    • Investigate, recommend, and employ current and emerging trends, best practices, and technologies related to reference services and information literacy instruction.
    • Assist in general and reference collection development efforts, including print, audiovisual and online resources.
    • Willingness to undertake library & college committee responsibilities.






    • Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science required
    • 1+ years of relevant academic library experience
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation and instruction skills and a demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.


    Preferred Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to deliver effective library instruction and commitment to information literacy and assessment of student learning.
    • Ability to use print and online information resources relevant to a variety of academic disciplines.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member with diverse faculty, staff, and students in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.
    • Understanding of current technology and its applications to libraries, and an interest in ongoing discovery and evaluation of new and emerging technology.

    Hours:  9-5 three days a week and 2-10 two days a week; hours may vary during the summer and winter breaks.
