  • Work collaboratively with decentralized procurement centers and the Office of the Controller to develop a collaborative and robust procure-to-pay environment that is focused on fully leveraging the capability and capacity of the University's procurement related resources and technologies.
  • Develop a best-in-class strategic sourcing organization within the Procurement team.  Work closely with staff to mentor and train in proper strategic sourcing and negotiation skills and management techniques that will drive contract compliance in a non-mandated procurement environment
  • Oversee the development and execution of strategies through the strategic sourcing process by guiding strategic development for major commodities and/or services; oversee the development of annual strategic sourcing plans; and communicate team progress with the University's senior leadership.
  • Oversee the process to select and manage suppliers by driving relevant supplier selection and negotiating processes based on each commodity's sourcing strategy; and establishing and maintaining relationships with the senior management of key suppliers.
  • Develop, implement and administer policies and procedures for a Travel & Entertainment (T&E) and/or procurement card (p-card) program(s).  Ensure that policies and procedures are communicated to and understood by campus constituents.  Collaborate with campus stakeholders (i.e., Internal Audit, General Counsel, and Accounting) to ensure policies and procedures are in compliance with University policies and practices.
  • Perform outreach activities, including training for campus constituents and vendors, to further inform and educate appropriate individuals or groups regarding policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Manage Purchasing staff.  Interview, hire, train and orient personnel.   Provide work assignments, evaluate performance, and, when necessary, discipline staff.  Assist in resolving employee relations problems.  Ensure that all employees understand and contribute to the University's overall mission, have performance plans linked to the mission of the University, and conduct annual performance appraisals.
  • Direct preparation of and prepare a variety of reports, analysis and summaries as requested by University management, third-party personnel, or regulatory agencies.  May present report findings, orally and in writing, to requesting parties.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field required
  • Master's degree in Business Administration or related field preferred
  • 6+ years of experience in procurement activities
  • Experience in higher education highly preferred
  • Supply chain management-related work experience
  • Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M. or equivalent)
  • Must possess strong leadership and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including ability to prepare accurate and appropriate documentation and to review, proofread, and check documentation for accuracy.
  • Computer skills necessary to enter and manipulate words and data and use standard microcomputer-based software to communicate with others, prepare documentation, and/or analyze data.
  • Excellent organizational skills with an emphasis on attention to detail and ability to multi-task and prioritize competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Occasional travel to NYIT Manhattan Campus may be required.
