General description:

  • Through the Department of Family Medicine the Assistant or Associate Professor will report to the Chief of Virtual Medicine and/or the Director of Operations at the Institute For Clinical Competence (ICC)
  • Will work directly with students from the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYIT COM) in year 1, 2, 3 and/or 4 as well as the staff of the ICC.


  • .Specific Responsibilities


  • Will review a student’s performance in standardized patient programs.
  • May work with a team of students in mannequin based simulation programs.
  • May be asked to lead skills workshops such as rectal examination, urinary catheter placement, IV placement, SOAP note writing, etc.
  • May be asked to assess a student’s performance on formative clinical skills examinations (OSCE’s).
  • May be asked to evaluate a student’s performance of OMT.
  • Will provide either written and/or oral feedback to the student about his/her performance.
  • The role may include advising on clinical topics and specific scenarios, training of standardized patients in physical examination skills, as well as contributing to the development of educational materials and evaluation tools.
  • Will be required to attend a training session on the use of SimIQ, the learning management software utilized by the ICC, as well as an orientation to the simulation lab and training on use of specific rubrics and assessment scales such as PARS.
  • May be required to attend specific meetings at the ICC and/or faculty development programs as well as any meetings as required by the Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at NYIT-COM.




  • DO degree preferred
  • Specialty: Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics or Emergency Medicine preferred
  • Proficiency using a computer and/or iPad
  • Experience in training of and/or education of Osteopathic medical students or residents is preferred but not required.
