Reporting to the Director of Housing and Residential Life, New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) seeks an Assistant Director, located at the Old Westbury Campus.
Develop an innovative, student development focused residential programming model that creates opportunities for student engagement and transformational experiences. This includes: community building programming, the ongoing development and oversight of programming focused on first-year students, creative and engaging special interest housing, engaging and advising Residence Hall Association, and oversight of living-learning communities. Coordinate the purchase of supplies for all Residence Life programming.
Supervise paraprofessional undergraduate and graduate student staff. Manage all assigned personnel functions including staff selection, performance review and evaluation, and training and development. Create processes that are clear, innovative, student-focused, and outcomes based. Processes should include assessment plans for ongoing evaluation of program effectiveness.
Coordinate housing and residential services for students and actively work to develop an innovative, robust, and “growth-based” residential services program that supports students to develop personally and intellectually with a holistic wellness approach. Troubleshoot student concerns through a lens of student development and customer service, working to remedy concerns quickly. Address ongoing community issues proactively. Coordinate operations for all Residence Life programming spaces, including the Bear Lair and hall lounges/storefronts. This includes oversight of staffing, supplies, advocating for student needs, and maintaining a clean and inviting environment in all spaces.
Educate the residential community about community standards and values through programming that enables students to understand their role and responsibilities within a residential community; coordinate the conduct process for residential students in compliance with the Student Code of Conduct and the Residential Community Living Standards.
Live on campus in a fully furnished one-bedroom apartment, campus meal plan provided and participate in the “on-call” emergency crisis response system.
Actively develop cooperative, collaborative and enriching professional relationships with colleagues within NYIT as well as with leasing agents.
Have a visible and active part of the community and promote institutional/campus pride by attending residential events and campus wide events.
Serve on campus-wide, division and university committees and work groups, and assume other responsibilities as directed by the Director of Residence Life, Associate Dean of Students, and the Dean of Students.
Evening and weekend work as required.
A Master’s Degree is required. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills and experience with college student personnel, social work, counseling or related work is also required.
