Responsibilities

The School of Architecture and Design at New York Institute of Technology invites outstanding candidates for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure-track) with a specialization in Digital Design, Digital Technologies and Fabrication techniques. This position will be based in our Manhattan or Old Westbury campuses and  requires teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level (a Master of Science program in this area is in preparation) in architectural design studio as well as courses, seminars and electives in this specialization. Duties will also include curriculum development, service on committees, participating in program accreditation, student advising, and other related activities. Critical will also be a strong engagement with scholarship supported by external funding, and an active participation in service to the community, the College, and the University.

The ideal candidate is expected to demonstrate a track record of experimental design research and/or emerging professional practice with an agenda to advance digital design approaches through applied research engaging entrepreneurial technology innovation. Areas of emphasis include and likely integrate digital fabrication processes, programming and computation, parametric/performance design, experiment based material explorations, emerging digital technologies dealing with responsive systems, custom tools, machines and methods informing creative pedagogical models and the pursuit of new knowledge at the NYIT School of Architecture and Design. Important will be a commitment in participating in the further development of transdisciplinary research projects through internal and external funding opportunities (such as design computation, fabrication and robotics, nanobiotechnology, multifunctional materials,  visualization, urban and smart cities), the expansion of collaborations and partnerships with other universities, with the profession and the industry, nationally and internationally, contributing to NYIT’s excellence and to the enhancement of NYIT’s reputation.

Qualifications

 

 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • First professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch or international equivalent) plus professional license (license in progress will be accepted)
  • Assistant Professor: ability to teach architectural design studios and topical courses/seminars/electives in the area of the position description
  • Associate Professor: superior ability to teach architectural design studios and topical courses/seminars/electives in the area of the position description as demonstrated with at least 4 years of relevant teaching experience
  • Evidence of specialized research, academic, professional/creative activities and achievements with a strong and innovative design sensitivity

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post professional Masters and/or Ph.D
  • Emerging professional practices
  • Record of interdisciplinary collaborations
  • Contributions in externally funded research
