Responsibilities

NYIT seeks a Systems Developer, in the Office of Enterprise Systems and Services for the Old Westbury campus.

The incumbent will function as a member of the Enterprise Systems and Services team for all NYIT’s campuses. In that capacity s/he will be expected to work either in a team or independently in design, development and maintenance of various databases, systems and applications and infrastructure.

Collect and document business requirements for existing and new systems, design the architecture and framework of the system, design and develop the database (backend) and front-end for the systems, implement and roll-out the systems, provide end user training, administer and maintain the systems.

The incumbent will share the responsibility for the implementation, customization, integration, administration, and support of the University CRM and the Student Success Collaborative platform.

The Systems Developer will apply innovative problem solving and programming skills to develop and maintain databases objects and programs code and reporting solutions to new and existing enterprise systems utilizing Oracle, MS SQL and My SQL databases.

Incumbent will be responsible for development and maintenance of front-end online transactions systems utilizing MS Net, Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, XML, HTML, PHP, Java, JavaScript, Ajax, PeopleSoft technologies including PeopleTools, Application Package, PeopleCode, Microfocus COBOL, Integration Broker, and SQR.

Identify, recommend and implement the proper hardware and software combination for the systems and applications.

Administer, maintain and upgrade software as appropriate and necessary.

Provide on-call coverage outside business hours on a routine rotation basis and special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree is required, computer science or engineering degree is preferred.

Strong experience and demonstrated proficiency in developing and maintaining software applications in a complex environment is required as well as demonstrated proficiency in successfully compiling user requirements, business process needs and translating them effectively to implementation plans is required.

Must have basic understanding of web-based and/or ERP systems and applications. Experience with CRM software is preferred.    

Knowledge of application development using PeopleCode, MicroFocus COBOL, Stored Statements, PeopleSoft, People Tools, Application Designer, Application Engine, Integration Broker, Process Scheduler, SQR, Crystal and BI Publisher is highly desired.

Demonstrated experience in Net/Java/PHP web-based technology including proficiency in data base programming in one of the following: Oracle, MS SQL or MySQL.  

Experience with project management and demonstrated ability to keep deadlines and successful delivery is required. Demonstrated ability to learn new technology.  Demonstrated proactive approach and self-initiative is a strong plus.

Must have the ability to interface effectively with a wide range of users with different expectations and backgrounds, as well as strong organizational skills with emphasis on detail and follow up.

Managing projects and priority in a dynamic fluid environment and excellent decision making and problem solving skills and effectiveness in getting things done collaboratively is required.

Previous experience in a higher education environment is strongly required, must be able to work on holidays, weekends, and evenings as needed.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation skills, ability to work independently and excellent customer service skills is required.
